[UCLA-LUG] X is hanging

He gets the grey screen with the little x so it seems that the video is
working fine.  It's something else that's hanging.  I'd bet money that
if he looks in /etc/X11/XF86Config and finds the section:

Section "Pointer"
    Protocol    "Microsoft"
    Device      "/dev/mouse"

and modifies it to something other than what he has in there currently,
X will stop hanging.  That doesn't mean that the mouse will WORK, it
just means that the mouse driver won't hang.

During this run of reconfiguring stuff, did he change any network
information?  I doubt it since network problems usually manifest
themselves as a blank screen (it never displays the grey screen with the
x), but it's worth asking.  In other words, did he change ANYTHING else?
