[UCLA-LUG] cheap linux laptop reco?

hi,

i am going to buy a laptop in the <$1200 range, and i
was wondering if any of you would have any
recommendations.  it will need to run linux and
mathematica; i will try to partition off some win98
also.  basically i would like a laptop which is very
compatible with linux, easy to setup with video and
modem etc.  any suggestions would be appreciated!
