[UCLA-LUG] Xfree 4 problems . . .

Hey guys, I know some of you installed XFree 4 -- I'm wondering if
anyone's seen/heard about this problem. The install went OK, I managed to
get back to my previous resolution/color depth -- and the config file
format's much more intuitive! Anyway, the funky thing is this: some screen
elements get drawn as black rectangles. For example, if you fire up XMMS
the playlist is just a black rectangle -- you can click songs still, but
you can't see them. Also the little E window that has your minimized
programs in it is black -- and sometimes an eterm background will be
black, and sometimes the bottom half of the wallpaper won't show up. Also
some pages in netscape will render with black elements, but you do it
later and they won't. ??? It'll be really annoying to roll this X install
back but working like this long term is highly not cool. 

Thanks for any pointers you can give -- btw, I've been capturing the
errors from the server and also X now keeps logs and there's no complaints
in either of them.
