As far as I know, Sawmill has no features of its own to display icons for
minimized windows. It relies on Gnome for that. So, if you want a display of
minimized stuff without having to have the whole Gnome panel open, you can
add a second panel containing nothing but the Gnome pager. If you add a
corner panel in particular, it'll take up the minimum of screen real estate
(if that's what you're worried about).

Or, you could just switch to Enlightenment for a window manager, which
renders its own icons for minimized Windows. But E sucks, so I'd recommend
staying with Sawmill. :)
