when you say that, do you mean that the modem has a 25 pin connector?  or
that the manual that comes with it tells you to plug it into the parallel
port?  if you don't have a 25 pin serial port, get a 25 pin to 9 pin
adapter and plug it into a serial port.  i have never seen a normal modem
that is a parallel port device.  if it's really a parallel port device,
you're probably going to have some problems.
