[UCLA-LUG] pppoe, linux, and root

Hi.

so, i was trying to set up my linux box, or rather linux part of my box, to
do pppoe.

I use the roaring penguin rp-pppoe. The problem, however, is that they
supply
adsl-connect, and adsl-stop scripts They work, but complain that they want
to be run by root.

i am not exactly sure why, but before i was told not to use old pon/poff
scripts
as root, and instead make a user/group for this kind of business.
Should not the same apply to adsl? and if yes, does anyone know a way around
having to be root. ( i get a feeling that its not a permission problem.
