":0" is the virtual terminal that the Xserver normally uses. 
xscreensaver is telling you that it cannot connect to it.

Here's a test.  Press Ctrl-Alt-F3.  You should drop to a text console
(tty3).  Now press Alt-F7.  If you go to a blank screen, press Alt-F8. 
:0 is normally (but not ALWAYS) going to be located at VT0, which is
accessed by Alt-F7.  :1 would be VT1 ad accessed by Alt-F8.  I don't
want to try to explain any more because I fear I've already mixed up
some terminology.
