your /etc/hosts file should at least contain :
127.0.0.1 localhost localhost.localdomain
your.ip.here yourhostname yourhostname.yourdomainname
and depending on what you use, you probably want loghost in your /etc/hosts file too...
what was X complaining about specifically?
